So I was stumbling through the web using Stumbleupon and I came across this gif sequence of the Earths size in relation to other planets and stars in the universe. To be honest it completely stunned me at how unbelievably small our planet is in relation to everything. Here is a couple of facts for you.
- To walk VY Canis Majoris once the way around, it would take us 650000 years at walking speed of 5km an hour.
- If VY Canis Majoris was our sun it would stretch out as far as saturn.
I personally think it is unbelievable and also to think that scientists think there is something bigger out there. WOW.
So I have been looking at modifying my MacBook Pro for a good while now. After endless hours looking at mod sites and things that can be done, I have decided to settle with changing the apple insert behind the screen as my first step into the world of Mac modding.
I found a great site that sells inserts and shows you how to fit them. You can find it here. There are some cool results in their gallery. As you can see from the lovely picture to the left I went for a modest red insert. I made it myself actually. The thing is though you don't want to know the frustration and agony I went through to get the flippin screen back off me Mac. After about 3 hours it was all done and dusted. So there you go I now have a customized MacBook Pro. Cool.
Well I have been playing Nexuiz for around 8 hours now (not continuously, I needed sleep) and have found that for a free a game it is not that bad at all. Like previously mentioned, it certainly has the look and feel of Unreal Tournament. The maps, characters and weapons are very similar all be it the poorer graphics. It's super fast and game play doesn't stop for a minute. Very good fun to play. I have a few issues with it though. The server list is poorly organized, it is very hard to discern what kind of game you are going into until you're actually in it. This may be because I have only just started playing it. Some of the maps seem to very laggy especially when multiple explosions occur. I am using a Macbook Pro with it on medium settings and an 8meg connection so it doesn't seem like there is issue with my computer or connection. There are still a few bugs to iron out such as the game quitting unexpectedly when playing certain games. This is to be expected though. Other than that, for a free game, it is a fine offering and I urge any one to download and play it.
In other news. I received my copy of the MUSE H.A.A.R.P special edition dvd today. For the unknowing, this is a dvd of their performance at Wembley Stadium on 17th June 2007. It was an amazing gig and the dvd does it justice. I am also pleased to see that I am on the dvd in the crowd. You can see me at around 12:24 in the bottom right of the screen. I am wearing a yellow T-shirt. That made my day when I spotted myself.
Also Middlesbrough beat Derby, 1-0 as well which is a good result for us.
Think Unreal Tournament but free. I have been looking for a free online multiplayer game for OSX for a while now and I think I may have found the one. I am in the process of Downloading it now and will post when I have played it to tell you what I think. Looks Good so far though.
Well not exactly but I have just discovered how really cool the are. I have been using them for a while in Logic Pro 8, but today, when using Reason I was experimenting with the BV512 vocoder and the synth possibilities are endless. I want a KORG microkorg as well now. I used one in Leeds a couple of years back and was blown away by its capabilities. I think i am going to go away now and play with EVOC (Logic's vocoder) till I get bored which I can't see happening any time soon.
